✨Real Talk for Aesthetic Business Owners Edition: Trusting Your Gut
I don’t know about you, but me and my dogs 🐶🐶 have been absolutely loving this beautiful sunny weather! (With SPF on of course) 🌞 Long walks, morning coffees in the garden ☕🌸, and that little boost of energy sunshine brings—it’s been so good for the soul. I hope you’ve had a chance to soak it up too, even just for a few peaceful minutes between clients 💆♀️
Now, let’s talk business...
This week reminded me of one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned over the years:
You have to trust your gut—especially when it comes to hiring.
I recently interviewed a new aesthetician who seemed like a great fit. ✅ Confident, passionate, said all the right things. So, I offered her the job and booked her in for her induction.
But when she came back for that next meeting… the vibe was off. 😬
She had a lot of questions about the contract—not the kind that show curiosity or caution, but the kind that throw up serious red flags 🚩. Her energy, her tone, even her body language had changed.
I sat with it for a day, ran it through my head a few times, and then made the call:
I trusted my gut and ended it there.
I told her we wouldn’t be continuing with her employment. It wasn’t easy, but it was 100% the right move.
After two recent failed attempts at hiring, I’ve realised something important:
The time, energy, and emotional labour of onboarding the wrong person just isn’t worth it.
🧠 3 Lessons from This Week’s Hiring Hiccup
🔮 Your intuition is a business tool – It’s not woo-woo. It’s experience, pattern recognition, and self-protection rolled into one. If something feels off, it probably is.
🎭 The induction reveals more than the interview – Interviews are the performance. Induction is when you meet the real person. Always give yourself that space to reassess.
🚪 You don’t owe anyone a job – You owe it to your clinic, your team, and your peace of mind to protect the environment you’ve built. If someone isn’t aligned, it’s okay to say no.
I know how hard it is to find the right people in our industry—especially when you’re spinning a hundred plates 🎯. But I promise you this:
Being temporarily short-staffed is way better than being permanently stressed, trust me I've lived it!
So take this as your reminder:
💬 Stick to your standards
🛑 Back your boundaries
🧭 Trust your gut
Until next time -
